TFS Power Tools is a critical piece of TFS usage as a VCS. Couldn't live without these, between Team Members, the Custom Policy Downloads, Migrate, etc TFS would be much less viable.
Keep up the good work, and never let these utilities die!
My lead is obsessed with TFS and always has us install these "Power Tools." Every time I've done so they've caused some kind of problem with the operating system. Now that they no longer analyze problems with TFS, I don't see the point.
The documentation on the Description page is horrendous. So what version of TF Power Tools do you install if you run more than one version of Visual Studio? I run VS 2012, 2013 _and_ 2015. Do I need all three versions of TFPT, or just the latest?
And as always the stupid COMProvider error filling up my Application Event log and making the Explorer shell completely unusable. I can't tell you how many times over the years that this happens and I wonder why my system is slow. For the same reason I uninstalled Tortoise Git will likely be the same reason that eventually drives me to uninstall these "power tools" that seem to do nothing _except_ drain _power_ from my system.
Hi
I did a <TestRun> deleting files - records > 31 days
The report showed 40G and after this I saw NO change in the SQL DB space..
My understanding is the attachments are part of the "testrun"
I was expecting that any attachments > 31 days would also be deleted.
>> Can some clarify for me what I am missing ?
>> Do I need some wild card combined with the date range? e.g.
<Attachment>
<SizeInMB GreaterThan="0" />
Thanks
I checked today which is the day after the "big delete", no change in the tbl_TestResult size or overall Collection DB (i.e. if some nightly maint task removes logically deleted records)
>> Any one know the answer ?
The TFS Power Tools menu item is not visible when you right click on a file in Windows Explorer. I am using Windows7 64 bit OS. I rebooted my box, after install but still see nothing. What is going on?
Nothing I can do (and I did A LOT) makes the extensions available in the windows explorer. Sysinternals Tools reveal everything is there, it just does not work.
It is possible to tag certain build-tests as "keep" in visual studio (vs2015). These would be i assume milestone build and tests.
=> Does the tool take this into account or does it delete these records as well ?
=> If it does delete these "keep" records as well, could a XML it switch option be added to skip over the "keep" tests ?
Many thanks for this very useful tool
Having spent £1700 on licence for VS Test Professional 2015, I did a install of VS TP on both Windows Server 2012 and on Windows 8.1, in both cases followed immediately by Powertools. I have found that Powertools does not work in either situation. If I try to use the Process Template editor, for example, I just get an error telling me that the ProcessTemplateEditorPackage did not load correctly.
What am I supposed to do? My client organisation is too large to get away with using VS Community Edition (which by the way works absolutely fine with Powertools), and stumping up an extra £4700 for VS Enterprise (which I have tested also works fine) when I don't need to use the coding facilities is ridiculous.
Why can't you make the TFS Powertools work with VS Test Professional? It is pretty ridiculous that they don't work with the version of VS that is aimed at interaction with TFS.
TFSShellExt generate lots of Error:
TFS Shell Extension event:\n Failed to start COMProvider while calling CheckWorkstationCache.
I'm not sure whether it is related to resume from hibernation/standby or not.
Same problem here. Explorer becomes significantly unstable and crashes frequently (Windows 10 x64). This issue is discussed also in the Q&A for the 2012 version of the power tool (with no resolution other than uninstalling the extension). Any chance of this being fixed?
I face the explorer crash at-least once everyday. I have VS 2012 and VS 2015 installed on Win7 x 64 machine.
Here the details from event logger. Whenever this happens I have to do a hard reboot my PC. Any solutions ?

Hi,
Please allow extensions to be more flexible. Currently tcmp presumes that there is a "." in front of the extension supplied in the settings file.
Since in the test run results, testers very often also include files with xml extension, it is not possible to filter these out and separate them from other: "*_Metadata.xml" xml files for example.

Hi, I've installed 2015 Visual Studio Enterprise 2015. I've also installed 2015 Power Tools. However, when I open VS, I can not see the Power Tools under the Tools drop down where I was expecting. Note: I still have VS 2012 and Power Tools 2012 on my machine. Any idea what I might need do to be able to use the 2015 Power Tools in VS 2015?
Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated!
Regina
The code is already open? Where? Basically i'd like to contribute to the Best Practice Analyser that was removed on this version. If it is possible to open the code of TFS 2013 Powertools too, we can try to upgrade the tool.
